PASCAL CHIMBONDA insists he decided within 24 hours of meeting Roy Keane that he should abandon London's bright lights to join Sunderland.
It took more than a week between the defender visiting Wearside and being confirmed as manager Keane's second recruit from Spurs.
But the 29-year-old had some financial issues to settle with Tottenham and that proved the reason why he didn't come
to the North East sooner.
Having played in the North West with Wigan, Chimbonda says he has no qualms about leaving the capital.
He said: "My first impressions when I came here and spoke to the manager were good. He did not push me to making a decision straight away; he was patient and gave me time to think about everything.
"The manager showed me a lot of respect by giving me time to make up my mind.
"But I didn't need long to think it over – I decided the next day that I wanted to come here because I had a good feeling about the place and the manager.
"Coming to Sunderland is a good challenge for me and I am sure I will be happy here.
"I don't mind where I go to play my football.
"I have lived in the north before when I played at Wigan so I don't think it will be hard for me."
Chimbonda will make his Stadium of Light debut on Sunday against Ajax (kick-off 3pm)
