STEED MALBRANQUE hopes to win over Sunderland fans in the same way he gained the respect of the Tottenham faithful.
Malbranque quickly established himself as a favourite at White Hart Lane as his stylish displays delivered the brand of flair football Spurs fans have come to expect.

Malbranque said: "There are some good memories with Spurs. I had two great years
there and I wish them all the best, but now I turn the page and I have a new challenge.

"Sunderland has a fantastic stadium with great supporters, and there's a great atmosphere inside the stadium. I think if we can do something good we will have the fans behind the team."

The 28-year-old, who featured in 55 of Spurs' 57 games last season, including the 2-1 Carling Cup final triumph over Chelsea, had five years with Fulham after a £5million move from Lyon and joined Spurs for £2m in August 2006.

Meeting with Keane and hearing his ambitious vision for Sunderland were major influences in deciding to pursue a career outside London.

"Of course, he was a big factor in me coming here," said Malbranque.

"I spoke with him two weeks ago and I had a very great feeling with him. I liked what he had to say. He wants to win something and try to bring something very good to the club."
