STEVE Bruce today hailed Fraizer Campbell as the success story of Sunderland's week-long stay in Portugal.
Campbell scored Sunderland's late equaliser in their 1-1 draw against Brighton a week ago and then all four of the Wearsiders' goals in the 4-2 defeat of Hull City last weekend.

But his overall play, fitness and attitude made a winning package, according to Bruce.

"Fraizer did very in terms of his goalscoring, there's no doubt about that," admitted the Sunderland manager.

"For me, he has been the stand-out player of our stay here, but not just for his goals – he's been terrific all round.

"It would be a bit of an exaggeration to say that he went away a boy and came back a man this summer – but it wouldn't be that much of an exaggeration.

"Sometimes you see that in pre-season – you see a player who just seems to have come on completely in the space of the break.

"And Fraizer has been that player as far as we're concerned.

"His goals have been the icing on the cake – but the condition he has got himself, the pace and movement he's shown and the maturity he's demonstrated are all signs of a player who has come on a leap."
