JEMMA Lowe's dreams of an individual medal from the Beijing Olympics are over after she suffered heartbreak in this morning's semi-finals.
The Hartlepool swimmer finished third in the first semi-final of the 200 metres butterfly in a time of two minutes 7.87 seconds.

Sadly, six swimmers went faster than Lowe in the second semi, leaving the 18-year-old's individual campaign over after she finished sixth in the final of the 100m butterfly earlier this week.

The Borough of Stockton swimmer still has a chance of bringing home a medal though as she is part of the 4x100m medley relay, which begins on Friday afternoon.

A philosophical Lowe said: "I gave it my best shot and unfortunately it is just the way this crazy competition works."
