Jeffries campaign ends in bronze

KENNY Egan's southpaw skills consigned Sunderland's Tony Jeffries to an Olympic bronze medal after their light heavyweight semi-final in Beijing tonight.
The Irishman was always on top and built on an early lead to eventually triumph 10-3 and book a place in Sunday night's Olympic final.
Earlier Sutherland's Ireland team-mate Paddy Barnes was unhappy with the judging after being comprehensively beaten 15-0 by Chinese superstar Zou Shiming in the light-flyweight semi-finals.
Despite exceeding expectations simply by qualifying for the Games, the 21-year-old from Belfast was furious with the scoring of his contest and not content with his bronze medal.
Barnes said: "I got beat fair and square but the judging was terrible.
"There's no way I lost 15-0. I hit him with clean shots. The way the judging is out here, it should be the judges being drug-tested, not the fighters.
"I don't care about the Olympic medal. They can keep it for all I care. Bronze is for losers."
