TWO Hartlepool footballers have put forward their case for international honours.
Teenage prospects Anthony Davies and Luke Sullivan return home today after taking part in trials for the England Schools Under 18 team.
The Hartlepool College of Further Education students spent four days at Keel University when the group of 66 hopefuls gets whittled down to a proper squad, to be announced in a couple of months.
Coach Ian Clark praised the pair – Davies is a centre-forward and Sullivan is a left winger.
"There were 66 on trial and to have had two there is a great achievement, not just for the college but for the lads," said Clark.
"They both came to the college when they were 16 to go on entry to employment courses.
"They have done fantastic and deserve this call-up.
"Anthony and Luke were selected for their performances for the county team and the college sponsored them to go to Keel.
"They got all their kit provided, food, accommodation, top coaching, the lot - it was just down to them to impress at the trials.
"They were both at Pools until Under 16 level and they are good players.
"I'm not saying they'll go on to become professionals, but I know last year an England Under 18 kid ended up being signed by Middlesbrough.
"If you do well for England then you could be spotted but for the moment it's all about these lads trying to impress to get in the England Under 18 Schools squad."
