Becks is 'feeling positive'
David Beckham last night said he was "feeling positive" following surgery on his Achilles tendon.
The England midfielder was operated on in Finland yesterday by surgeon Sakari Orava after picking up an injury playing for AC Milan at the weekend which will rule him out of the World Cup.
"I'm feeling positive and now concentrating on getting back to full fitness over the coming months," Beckham said on his website, www.davidbeckham.com. "The operation was a success and I'd like to thank Dr Orava and all the medical staff who looked after me during my time in Finland."
Orava explained that Beckham, who is currently using crutches, would have to go through a lengthy spell of rehabilitation.
He told Sky Sports News: "It's really a big programme and we will go through the details later with a physiotherapist, and then he will get the programme and try to follow it as closely as possible."
Regarding the length of time Beckham faces on the sidelines, Orava stressed around six months was the likely lay-off, adding: "It is always so in a normal athlete but in a top-level (athlete) it is difficult to say, sometimes sooner, sometimes later."
