CHRIS Burton’s North East derby confontation with Jon Lewis Dickinson has lost its title status.
The pair had been due to do battle in Aberdeen for Dickinson’s Northern Area championship tomorrow.
But the belt is no longer on the line in the 10-rounder at Aberdeen Exhibition Centre.
Burton’s coach Neil Fannan told SportMail that Dickinson pulled the plug on the championship in order to “protect his position” as English cruiserweight title challenger.
“I got a phonecall to say the fight was off,” said Fannan. “Then 10 minutes later I was phoned again to say it was on but not for the title and the weight set at 14st 6lbs.”
