GLENN Foot will fight for the English title before Christmas – and is in training for it in Peterlee.

The crowd pleaser is to take on Londoner Ahmet Patterson over 10 rounds in a match which doubles as a British welterweight championship eliminator.

Purse bids have been invited for the showdown which must be staged before January and wherever it takes place, it promises to be some confrontation.

Patterson is a top fighter as he proved by stopping Chad Gaynor in round five to win the vacant English title last month away from home in Sheffield.

Foot and Patterson have almost identical records. Both are 26, have unbeaten 13-bout records, Foot just edging the KO stats, registering six stoppages to the four of the East Dulwich weltter.

Foot is in the East Durham Community College gym, where he has started his build-up under coach David Binns.

“Glenn is a great fighter and very exciting,” manager Phil Jeffries said. “He’s back in the gym and Binnsy will have him ready for the big fight.”
