NIGEL Wright has moved a step closer to a third tilt at the British championship.
But the Hartlepool boxer still has another hurdle to clear before he can get close to his dream of wearing a Lonsdale Belt around his waist.
English king Wright has been matched with Welsh champ Jason Cook in a final British light-welterweight championship eliminator which must be staged before the end of October.
The British Boxing Board of Control have put the fight out to purse bids, with promoters having until July 13 to bid for a mouthwatering contest.
Wright had hoped for a straight shot at either lightweight champ Anthony Crolla or light-welter belt holder Ashley Theophane.
Since losing his last British championship assignment, to Ajose Olusegun in the summer of 2009, the Gus Robinson-managed star has come back with four impressive wins.
But coach Peter Cope admitted, while there was a tinge of disappointment they have one more bout to negotiate, that they had “no complaints”.
