NIGEL Wright hopes to celebrate a happy anniversary tonight when he puts his English light-welterweight championship on the line in Sheffield.
The Hartlepool fighter has been matched with unbeaten prospect Nicki Smedley at Hillsborough Leisure Centre.
And, in a twist of fate, this intriguing domestic battle comes exactly six years after he made the maiden defence of the very same title.
That night, Wright sent a packed Spennymoor Leisure Centre crowd into ecstasy when he outpointed rugged challenger Alan Bosworth.
This evening, the Gus Robinson southpaw finds himself on away territory but he is aiming for an action replay.
“It was a great night,” Wright told SportMail.
“I really enjoyed – it was my first defence from the first time I had this title.
“It probably still rates as one of the best nights of my career. Not only did I box pretty well, I had to tough it out a bit.
“I hope it doesn’t come down to that but I can do it if I need to.”
