THE North-East is braced for a Colossal afternoon of boxing.
Promoter Phil Jeffries today proudly unveiled his cast list for his first show of 2015, at Rainton Meadows Arena on Sunday, March 8.
The top of the bill at Colossal will be title bout for his unbeaten Sunderland star Thomas Essomba who meets African Isaac Quaye for the International Masters bronze belt over eight rounds.
Another new Wearside prospect Isaac Macleod is in action as are two more undefeated talents, Tommy Ward and Hetton’s Jordan King.
Tommy’s big brother Martin will have overseas opposition over six rounds.
Seaham’s Jordan Ellison will be making his debut with a four rounder.
Jeffries is staging a cracking North-East derby over six rounds between two unbeaten hopes, Hartlepool’s Daniel Cope and Tom Whitfield, who boxes out of the Mal Gates’ gym in South Shields.
Other talent from the region on the bill includes Horden debutant Liam Cammock, Middlesbrough duo John Green and Simon Vallily, while Tyneside is represented by unbeaten Basi Razaq and Sam Best, who is making his debut.
“We’ve lost a couple of contests from the original bill, but we have 12 bouts on,” said Jeffries.
“Our aim is to give fans value for money and we feel we’ve done that.
“This will definitely be one of the best shows in the North-East this year, if not the best.
“The Cope v Whitfield fight is a brilliant 50/50 derby and I give credit to both lads and both teams for taking this fight on.
“Thomas Essomba will top the bill and he has a great fight against Isaac Quaye for the International Masters bronze title.
“But then you look at the lads who are on like Martin and Tommy Ward, Isaac Macleod and Jordan King and you have fantastic boxers in action, plus three lads making their debuts.
“The show has everything you could ask for and I’m very excited.”
