PETER Cope is the Northern Area lightweight champion after winning his title derby with John Green in South Shields.

The Hartlepool boxer beat his Middlesbrough opponent 96-95 though the scoreline from referee Andrew Wright looked surprisingly close.

Cope controlled the contest at Temple Park throughout and while some rounds were a little scrappy, he looked a clear and comfortable winner.

It completed a clean sweep for the Gus Robinson Developments camp.

Earlier Daniel Cope had won every round in defeating Barnsley’s Jamie Zazslos in a 40-36 score from referee Wright.

Horden’s Anth Hardy made it six wins out of six as a pro, enjoying a shutout 60-54 result against Brummie veteran Jason Nesbitt from ref Williams.
