SAVANNAH Marshall struck gold in London at the dummy run for the Olympics – now she is determined to be back next year and do it in the real thing.
Marshall triumphed at the London Prepares Series yesterday when she beat Kazakhstan’s Dariga Shakimova 13-10 in the middleweight final.
Her success at the Olympic Test Event at the ExCel Arena has set her up perfectly for her assault at London 2012.
The Hartlepool fighter told SportMail: “I’m buzzing.
“I know I still have to qualify for the Olympics by doing well at the World Championships [in China in May].
“But it will mean everything to me if I can get back here next year.”
Marshall beat a top-calibre field in East London, comprehensively outpointing Australia’s number one, Naomi Fischer-Rasmussen, on Friday and outboxing dangerous American Franchon Crews in the semi-final ahead of yesterday’s showpiece against the Asian Games bronze medallist.
“It was a brilliant tournament and I think it’s given me a bit of a headstart on everyone else.
“I know the Olympics are going to be massive but I’ve had a taste of what we can expect.
“I’ve boxed at the arena where the boxing is going to be and sampled the atmosphere.”
