HARTLEPOOL boxing experienced a mixed start to the 2013 National Schoolboys Championship.

Three boxers, Callum Measor, Morgan Murray and Bobby Carter, all from the Catholic Club, made progress on the first day of the competition.

And while Headland’s Jamie Skidmore and Gus Robinson duo Liam Rowbotham and Darren Coombs were eliminated in the preliminary rounds of the Tyne, Tees & Wear stage of the event, they all exited with their heads held high.

Measor and Murray did not even have to climb through the ropes at Newbiggin by the Sea.

Both received byes – Measor does not have an opponent in his in the class three U38 kilo division, so the 14-year-old goes straight through to the national part of the tournament.

Murray will be in action in the TTW final of the class three U40 kilo section this Sunday.
