GREG O’Neil kicked off proceedings at the Summer Rumble with a tidy 40-36 victory over Trowbridge’s Dan Blackwell.
The Horden middleweight, who trains out of Gus Robinson Developments gym in Hartlepool, took the fight to his opponent throughout and dominated as he eased his way to the second victory of his career.
The power-puncher looked a lot better than in his debut contest where he was floored in the first, only to come back and win.
O’Neil was happy with the result but admitted that there is more to come.
He told SportMail: “I’m pleased to have won but I know I can be better.
“I thought I made hard work of it but he never troubled me. The jab is the shot I have been working on but I felt myself letting go.
“I listened to Peter (Cope) and got my head back on it.
“Next time I will make sure I am better, fitter and stronger. The main thing now is improving.”
