SAVANNAH Marshall was getting back down to work today after sampling the colour and excitement of London 2012 for the first time.

The Hartlepool boxer moved into her capital residence yesterday when the home nation’s competitors and officials were formally welcomed into the Olympic Village.

Marshall was present when Team GB went through their induction ceremony at the site in East London.

British Olympic legends like Kelly Holmes and Duncan Goodhew were in attendance along with political figures such as Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg.

Marshall said she enjoyed the occasion but insisted that there is still work to do ahead of the boxing tournament which takes place a few miles away at the ExCel Arena in the Docklands area.

“It’s nice to be here now and I think everyone’s excited,” said the 21-year-old, who is sharing accommodation with GB team-mates and fellow northern girls, Nicola Adams, from Leeds, and Liverpool’s Natasha Jonas.

“It was a good day – there were dancers and street performers and all sorts of weird and wonderful things going on.

“After all the build up it’s been nice to get here and get settled in.

“I’m sharing with Nikki and Tasha and it’s good being with them.

“I always room with Nikki on away trips and we all work together in Sheffield and knock around together so that will help us settle in.

“The apartment we’re in is nice and we’re all unpacked but we’ve got work today.

“We don’t start boxing until a week on Sunday so we’re still training. All the hard stuff has been done but we still need to keep ticking over.”
