PETER Cope’s English title challenge is off.
The unbeaten 22-year-old was just 10 days away from challenging for the vacant super-featherweight belt in London.
But fellow undefeated challenger Mitch Smith has pulled out of the 10-round battle at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park because of a knee injury.
“Devastated isn’t the word for it,” said Peter Cope, dad and trainer to the Hartlepool prospect.
The Gus Robinson Developments head coach said the promoters, Queensbury, hoped to stage the contest in June.
“I just can’t believe Peter’s luck,” added Cope Snr.
“That’s three title bouts in the last six months to get called off.”
