WORLD champion Savannah Marshall has been named as Hartlepool’s Sports Personality of the Year.

The Headland boxer received her trophy at Hartlepool Sports Council’s annual awards at Seaton Carew.

Marshall said she was “honoured” to be the pick of her hometown’s sporting talent just 10 days after becoming only the second ever world boxing champion from Britain.

She received her trophy from fellow Poolie and former Olympian, Judith Turland who, as a teenage Judth Sirs, represented Great Britain in the Munich games of 1972.

Savannah has followed in the footsteps of Hartlepool greats like George Feeney, Michael Hunter, Andrew Taylor, Amanda Coulson, Jemma Lowe and Graeme Storm as winners of the trophy.

Hartlepool Indoor Bowls Club were the club of the year and Hartlepool Rovers U17 rugby side the team of the year.
