SAVANNAH Marshall is counting down the days for the start of the Olympic Games.
Marshall was thrilled to double Hartlepool’s participation at London 2012 as she joned Jemma Lowe in Team GB.
The world champion had qualified via her heroics in China last month but her selection was only officially ratified at a ceremony in Sheffield on Monday afternoon.
Lowe clinched her second Olympic appearance back in March and will race in the 200 metres butterfly at the London Aquatic Centre, the heats getting under way on Tuesday, July 31.
Marshall has a day or five to wait, with women’s boxing making its debut in the games on Sunday, August 5.
“Jemma went to English Martyrs Sixth Form College but I had already left school, so I don’t know her,” said the 21-year-old. I just know what she has done as a swimmer and she has been at the top for a lot of years.
“It’s brilliant that a little town like Hartlepool has two athletes going to the Olympics in London.
“There are places around the country bigger than Hartlepool who has no one at the games but we’ve got Jemma and me.
“It would be great if both of us could bring back medals.”
