Savannah Marshall beat Ariane Fortin of Canada to claim a gold medal in Glasgow

After the bout Savannah said: “It feels great. It’s made it a lot better because it’s my first tournament back,

“I’m just happy to be back never mind winning.

“But London was two years ago it is like a bad dream.

“I’m really happy for Nicky, she’s one of my best friends and I’m over the moon that we can be Commonwealth champions together.

“I knew I lost the last round, but I thought I won the first three but you never know what the judges think.

“Fair play to the Canadian she’s really strong and physical and experienced as well.

“I’ve boxed in the World Combat Games last November and that was another multi-sport event so I’m used to it now.

“I think I’m far from my best I think I’ve got a long way still to come back but I think it will just take time.

“But I will only be judged on my last fight.”

On the World Championships later this year Savannah added: “I’m glad to have got some experience under my belt.

“I think you’re only as good as your last fight so the World Champs were two years ago, so it’s all forgotten.”
