Martin Ward’s English title opponent has pulled out of the Summer Rumble clash.

Sheffield fighter Leigh Wood has withdrawn from the 10-rounder, which also doubled as an eliminator for the British super-bantam title , at the Stadium of Light on Sunday, July 5.

Wood is the second boxer to back out of a fight with Ward after Kent’s Lewis Pettitt opted to pursue another title route.

Coach Neil Fannan said: “We’ll look for a new opponent and hopefully it will be third time lucky.”

The Dave Garside-managed won last time out when he outpointed Simas Volosinas over six rounds at the Borough Hall.
