THE region’s top amateur boxers will take centre stage today as Peterlee hosts a show against the Scottish National team (1.30pm start).

East Durham and Houghall College will be the venue for the show which stages a Tyne, Tees and Wear select against the team from north of the border.

Fifteen bouts are scheduled to take place at the brand new state of the art sports centre and Dave Binns has made it his second home.

Appointed head coach for his select team of youngsters, the England coach is looking forward to the event.

He said: “This should be a really good show.

“There is some fantastic talent on show from all around the North-East and I am looking forward to the show.

“I have watched loads of shows recently and there is some really good lads around.

“The Scottish nationals will be a good side and that’s without knowing anything about them.

“You always expect a national side to be talented but I know that we have some good boxers on show.”

Hartlepool boxers Luke and Adam Cope are in action.
