Boxing star Savannah Marshall faces Laurell and hardy test
Hartlepool boxer Savannah Marshall.
HARTLEPOOL’S Olympic hope Savannah Marshall faces the hardest fight of her career tonight when she meets two-time world champion Anna Laurell in a Sweden v Great Britain international.
Marshall is in a mixed nine-strong GB side for a men’s and women’s match in Stockholm.
The 20-year-old finished 2011 with four stright wins including the gold medal at the London Prepares Series, the Olympic test event at the ExCel Arena.
But Laurell will be one of the favourites for middleweight gold at London 2012 – the 31-year-old has two world championship triumphs to her credit.
While there was joy for the Headland star there was frustration for fellow Poolie, Amanda Coulson, who missed out on selection with lightweight rivals Natasha Jonas and Chantelle Cameron being selected at U60 and U64 kilos.
