CLAIMS that Manchester United are preparing a £15m bid for Craig Gordon this summer should not be dismissed out of hand by Sunderland fans.
It's the season for speculation, but there's no doubt that Gordon is on Sir Alex Ferguson's radar and with Edwin van der Sar turning 41 this year and second-choice keeper Tomasz Kuszczak failing to persuade the boss he's a natural successor, the Red Devils could come in with a record-breaking bit for Sunderland's number one.
The Scot finished last season in the sort of form you would expect of a player who broke the British transfer record for a goalkeeper when he made a 9m move from Hearts to Sunderland in 2007.
And although the previous campaign and the current one have been marred by injury, he is now back in the side and producing more top-class form – the pick of which has been a world class save in the recent win over Bolton Wanderers which was compared to the wonder-saves made by Jimmy Montgomery in the FA Cup and Gordon Banks in the World Cup.
