Since the demise of the three local leagues, Durham Senior, Durham Coast and Durham County League, now four years ago this season, Easington have never beaten Horden in league cricket.

However, they go into tomorrow’s derby at Horden as firm favorites to break that sequence.

Easington are brimming with confidence as last Saturday they demolished second-place Dawdon dismissing them for just over a hundred.

Horden go into their home derby lying third from bottom in the league table, some 34 points clear of the relegation zone area, without key players Jamie Geenwood, Scott Birks and Liam Irving unavailable

Horden Skipper Carl Watson said: “We may be going into the match with Easington as second favorites but cricket is a funny old game and anything can happen on the day.

“Easington are playing much better than us and even without three key players we will give it our best shout tomorrow more so with a lot at stake.

“We will be up for the game tomorrow and it could be a great opportunity even for both clubs professionals to shine with bat and ball so they alone could play a big part in deciding the outcome of this crucial fixture for us.”

Horden are pleased to see the return of Lee Jackson, and Matt Billyardg.

Spokesman for Easington Arthur Broxson said: “We are playing well at the moment and fully deserve to be where we are in the table at this present time.

“However, all form goes out of the window tomorrow and like in football the rivalry is there between the two clubs.

“A lot think we are favorites but Horden have not got to be underestimated.

“They have some good amateur players in their squad the same as we have so I hope the weather is kind and that we get a full days cricket tomorrrow.”
