The former Durham Head Coach’s appointment began last week.

Cook, who played for England in the 1980s and subsequently led Durham to major trophies as coach, has been appointed to improve skills and performance across the club.

His new role, which will see him taking training sessions with all teams, from U11s up to the seniors, has come about thanks to a sponsorship deal with Felling-based brick supplier W. McGovern & Co.

Cook said: “Grass-roots cricket is at the heart of developing talent for the sport.

“Philadelphia is a well-run club and has a solid foundation, with their first team finishing third in the Durham Cricket League last year.

“I am thrilled to assist Phili with their cricket and help fulfil the ambitions that the club have.”

Philadelphia Chairman Malcolm Pratt said: “I am over the moon that Geoff is joining us.

“We are a local company with a long history of working with and supplying bricks to local businesses.

“The North East is part of our heritage and it is great to be able to support nearby sports clubs and give something back to the communities we work alongside.

“I am looking forward to seeing the club develop under Geoff’s coaching.”

Cook will meet parents and junior members in the clubhouse this Saturday from 7pm. Senior players will also attend.

Any youngster wishing to join the club is invited to attend.
