Chelsea’s Patrick Bamford has turned down the chance to talk to Steve McClaren about a move to Newcastle United, according to a report.
The forward impressed on a season-long loan at Championship club Middlesbrough last season.
And Premier League champions Chelsea have offered the 21-year-old a five-year deal at Stamford Bridge.
Bamford also had a spell on loan at Derby County when Newcastle head coach McClaren was in charge at the iPro Stadium.
The Times today report that McClaren had inquired about taking Bamford to St James’s Park on loan.
But they claim the England Under-21 international has “rejected” the opportunity to discuss a move to Tyneside.
Instead, Bamford wants to instead make an impression on Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho in pre-season ahead of the new campaign, leaving McClaren and United to look elsewhere for striking recruits.
