MATTHEW Bates, Brad Walker and Nicky Featherstone have all been named in a strong reserve side to take on Hull City this afternoon.
Pools host the Tigers in the Final Third Development League Cup at Billingham Town (KO 2pm).
So far in the group stages Pools’ reserves have beaten Gateshead but lost to Middlesbrough and Scunthorpe United.
Last week’s 1-1 draw at Burton Albion in the league brought to an end a run of four consecutive defeats for the reserves.
John Hewitson is again taking charge of the match and he said it is a good chance for the fringe players to stake their claim for a first team place.
Hewitson said: “We’ve got a few players with first team experience in the team today so we’re looking for a strong performance.
“The lads know that they have to put on the right kind of display if they are to challenge for a shirt in the first team so hopefully they will take up that challenge today.
“Hull will give us a difficult test but if we go about it with the right attitude and work rate then we’re confident we can get a positive result.”
The Tigers lost 1-0 at Rotherham in their last game, while they’ve beaten Gateshead but lost to Middlesbrough in their two previous outings in the League Cup.
Admission prices for the game are £5 for adults and £3 for concessions.
