PLAYING in front of 20,000 fans was a breeze for Luke James, he was more worried about what his new Hartlepool United team-mates thought of him.

Within a matter of weeks the 17-year-old had gone from turning out in front of less than a 100 people at Billingham Town’s Bedford Terrace to blazing down the wing at Bramall Lane with a bumper crowd watching on.

But that jump didn’t bother the talented teen, his big concern was disappointing his senior comrades.

“You don’t recognise the number of fans,” admitted James, reflecting on his whirlwind introduction to professional football.

“Everyone asks ‘are you not scared playing in front of that many people?’.

“But you’re not – if you’re in the zone you don’t hear anything from the fans.

“I was more worried about what the other players thought of me to be honest.

“They have been there for years and they know what is right and what is wrong.

“But I think I’ve done ok.”
