HARTLEPOOL United have landed the “perfect” management team in the form of Middlesbrough duo Colin Cooper and Craig Hignett.
That is according to Matty Dolan, the Hartlepool-born Middlesbrough starlet who has come through the ranks on Teesside under their tutelage.
The 20-year-old says the former academy coaches compliment each other’s strengths and believes they are sure to bring success to Victoria Park.
“I honestly think they’ll be brilliant,” he told SportMail, “They’re the perfect partnership.
“It’s my hometown club so I’m buzzing they’ve got the job because I know they’ll do well.”
Dolan, who last week helped Yeovil win promotion to the Championship with his loan club, played in Cooper’s under-18 team at Boro, while Hignett was always around as a useful sounding board for the talented midfielder.
“Between them they will create a really good atmosphere at the club, there won’t be room for any bad eggs,” Dolan continued.
“Colin is good on the motivational side but he’s also very technical when it comes to coaching.
“He’ll bring the best of both worlds in that respect.
“I played under him for two years and he was really good for me.
“His man-management is excellent and he’ll spend time with players one on one.
“There are a couple of good young players coming through at Pools and, speaking from experience, I think he’ll be excellent for them.”
He went on: “With Higgy he’s just class, I really liked him.
“He’s so enthusiastic but has still got a fair bit of technical ability.
“He was ideal for me to talk to as a midfielder and he certainly knows his stuff, I thought he was brilliant.”
