DIMI Konstantopoulos made a happy return to Victoria Park when he starred for Middlesbrough Reserves in their Barclays Under 21 Premier League 3-1 victory over Southampton.
The former Pools promotion hero, who signed a short term contract for Boro last month, was in goal for their second string last night. Konstantopoulos made great first-half saves from Omar Rowe and Harrison Reed.
Boro also featured Hartlepool-born teenage midfield sensation Bryn Morris, who was denied a goal when his powerful header from Cameron Park’s cross was saved by the legs of Saints keeper Jody Cropper.
But Middlesbrough ran out convincing winners, with Emmanuel Ledesma catching the eye.
He first had an assist as midfield workhorse Richie Smallwood smashed home after just six minutes.
Rowe equalised with a fine finish midway through the half but Boro had the points wrapped up early in the second period.
Ledesma set up Luke Williams in the 49th minute and just seven minutes later, the Argentine got on the scoresheet himself after a one-two with Smallwood.
The 25-year-old should then have had a second when he was brought down in the box but Cropper dived to his left to save his spot-kick
