Magnay has returned from a serious knee injury ahead of schedule and looks set to start at right-back against the Mariners at the Northern Gas & Power Stadium.

It was feared the 28-year-old would miss the rest of the season after rupturing knee ligaments in the home draw against Mansfield Town.

But the defender has made an astonishing recovery and is back in full training.

Manager Dave Jones said in Monday’s SportMail that he expected it would be a “good month” before the former Chelsea player would return to League Two duties.

But Magnay will be looking to give a gentle nudge to his gaffer this afternoon in the Central League fixture.

Magnay played 45 minutes for a Pools XI last week when a Nike Academy team were beaten 4-2 at Maiden Castle.

Attacking midfielder Josh Hawkes, who bagged a hat-trick that day, is a likely starter for the side which will be coached by Ian McGuckin.

On-loan striker Louis Rooney, who has found his opportunities limited in the firsts team over the last three League Two games, is also a contender to get some minutes, along with fellow bench men from Saturday, James Martin, Jake Orrell and Devante Rodney.
