Keeper Trevor Carson will not be walking back into the Hartlepool United side.

That was the honest assessment of straight-talking boss Ronnie Moore following the excellent start to the season made by Adam Bartlett.

Cars will have a problem getting back at this present time as Adam has done nothing wrong

Carson will be missing until next month after suffering a hairline fracture to his toe near the end of pre-season.

The first-choice keeper has missed the opening four matches of the season – all wins and including three clean sheets – with Bartlett in outstanding form in each of them.

Carson is back at the training complex at Maiden Castle but is wearing a protective boot.

Bartlett, who had been expecting to play second fiddle to the Northern Ireland stopper, was man of the match in the Capital One Cup at Fleetwood, made crucial saves at York and was solid in the 1-0 midweek victory over Newport.

“Trevor is probably still two or three weeks away [from returning],” said Moore. “But Adam has been fantastic.

“For a number two to develop like that into a number one it doesn’t happen that often with goalkeepers.

“But Cars will have a problem getting back at this present time as Adam has done nothing wrong.

“He’s made saves, he’s kept us in games when we’ve been away from home under the cosh.

“It’s great for me and great for them to have competition in there.’’
