Craig Hignett has completed the signing of defender Scott Harrison.

The Hartlepool United boss is happy to have the centre-half back on the books at the Northern Gas & Power Stadium.

By his own admission he wasn’t playing well, in fact he was all over the place

Harrison has put pen to paper having impressed in pre-season for Pools.

The 22-year-old’s future at the Vic looked over when he was shown the door at the end of last season.

However, Hignett had offered the former Sunderland youngster a way back, if he wanted it.

“By his own admission he wasn’t playing well,” said Hignett. “In fact he was all over the place.

“But I knew there’s a player in there because I’ve seen it – he was player of the season the year before.

“Something wasn’t right, so I’ve gave him the chance.

“If he wanted to go somewhere else he could, but if he wanted to come back he could train, play and prove himself.

“He’s done that and he’s earned this.’’

Harrison started last season strongly for Ronnie Moore’s side, but lost his place when he was given a harsh red card against Crawley.

Moore and then Hignett used the Matthew Bates-Adam Jackson combo at the back and when Harrison did get an opportunity, he endured a bad night at Bristol Rovers.

He didn’t play again and things got worse when he suffered a broken bone in his foot.

But Harrison has recovered, physically and mentally, as proven by today’s new and deserved contract.
