Fenwick and Bates start for Hartlepool reserves against Middlesbrough

HARTLEPOOL United striker Scott Fenwick has been named in the starting line-up for this afternoon’s reserve match at Middlesbrough.

The second-string play their second match of the Final Third Development League Cup at Rockliffe Training Ground (KO 1pm).

Pools won their opening match last week against Gateshead, beating them 2-1 with Fenwick netting both goals while on trial. He then signed a permanent contract late last week and gets another chance to stake a first-team claim today.

Collins has also named former Peterborough goalkeeper Aidan Grant in the starting line-up, he has been on trial at the League Two club.

Meanwhile, former Boro defender Matthew Bates also starts as he looks to build up his match fitness after a calf injury.

Collins said: “It will be good for Scott and Matthew to get some more time on the pitch.”

Pools: Grant, Carr, Holden, Green, Nearney, Bates, Hawkins, Jewson, Fenwick, Woods, Smith.
