FRACTURED cheekbone victim Gary Liddle has handed depleted Hartlepool United a welcome boost and will be back in action by next week with the help of a protective face mask.
The 25-year-old, right, only underwent surgery on his injury on Monday and it had been feared he could be missing for several weeks.
However, the midfielder has already been measured for a face mask and could even return to training before the weekend.
The news was greeted with delight by Pools boss Mick Wadsworth whose side, without four senior midfield players, fought to a valiant goalless draw against Huddersfield Town last night.
And he told SportMail today: “Gary came out of hospital yesterday afternoon and he’s at home now. He is feels a little bit tender but he’s okay.
“The good news is he’ll be able to train and play in a mask, which is brilliant.
“Saturday (away at Stevenage) might be a little bit too soon but we’re hoping to get the mask within two or three days so we’ll see.
“But certainly by a week on Saturday (away at Rochdale) I’d expect him to be there or thereabouts.”
