HARTLEPOOL lad-made-good Jeff Stelling has sent a big thank-you – to the manager who let Ritchie Humphreys go 10 years ago.

Back in 2001, Humphreys had played just six games at Cambridge United, where he suffered a broken bone in his left foot.

The–then Cambridge boss John Beck didn’t want him – but Pools manager Chris Turner did and the rest is history.

Pools fan and Sky Sports presenter Stelling said: “Cambridge’s loss was our gain.”
