Ronnie Moore was pleased to see Scott Harrison and Dan Jones back playing for Hartlepool United - even if they are too casual at times.

Harrison, 21, started his first game of the pre-season programme on Friday night at Whitby Town and he got a further 45 minutes in against Spennymoor Town on Saturday after shaking off a hamstring injury.

Jones, who had surgery on a broken wrist at the end of last season, made his return against Spennymoor as a second-half sub.

The 20-year-old was originally due to return against Scunthorpe United on Tuesday but Moore named him in the squad at the weekend.

Moore was pleased to see them back as his side went four games unbeaten thanks to the 4-0 win.

“I am pleased to see them both back,” Moore told SportMail.

They were both a bit casual at times but Dan has missed the pre-season matches so far so it was a good test for him at Spennymoor.

“They were both a bit casual at times but Dan has missed the pre-season matches so far so it was a good test for him at Spennymoor.

“Scotty was the same.

“I was pleased with them, but I still think we need to move the ball quicker than we have done.”

Among the scorers was summer signing Jake Carroll and Moore has backed him to find the net when the season starts on August 8.

Moore added: “Jake down the left, there is still much more to come from him.

“But he will get goals because he is quick and has a great left foot.

“We just need to encourage him a bit more.

“He is quick, there is no doubt and we need to use his pace.”
