Frustrated Ronnie Moore will wait until the last minute to name his Hartlepool United side against Morecambe after being hit with mounting injuries.

Goalkeeper Trevor Carson (bruised toe) and defender Dan Jones (back) were already major doubts, while Jordan Richards has since been ruled out for up to six weeks with a back injury.

But Moore says the club has further injury concerns ahead of The Shrimps heading to Victoria Park tomorrow (KO 3pm).

Moore has looked to boost his squad with loan recruits - but ex-loanee David Mirfin won’t be joining the club from Scunthorpe United anytime soon.

The 30-year-old defender is wanted by Moore after League One Iron confirmed he can leave on a free.

But Moore says Scunthorpe are in “no rush” to let him leave due to their own injury concerns.

Moore told SportMail: “Everybody tells me on Twitter what I should be doing, do they really think I haven’t tried?!

“I have spoken with Scunthorpe but he played last week for them.

“They are in no rush to see him leave, they have a one or two little knocks and I wouldn’t be surprised if he was in their squad on Saturday.

“At this present moment in time we have tried but Mirf is going to be a no, no.”

Mirfin, a key player in last season’s ‘Great Escape’, is understood to be on good money and there is likely to be a lot of interest in him.

But Moore has always been keen to bring him back to Pools, if a deal can be struck.

Moore has since been looking elsewhere in a bid to strengthen his squad.

“We have injuries, more than we expected,” added Moore, who was keeping his cards close to his chest over the other injury doubts.

“Right now, I don’t know what the team will be, it was going to plan and now three or four injuries mean we have to change and we may dip into the loan market.

“We won’t know the team until 2 o’clock tomorrow.

“We are lucky in a way that we have a biggish squad but it is a worry at this present time.

“We have tried to get people in [on loan] yesterday and one minute we had them, then the next we didn’t, but we still have enough cover.

“It is just frustrating after the pre-season but there is not a lot you can do about it.

“We have had a fantastic pre-season, without any injuries and then when it comes so close you pick up one or two.

“We have enough to adapt to the system we want to play though.”

Reflecting on the back injury to Richards, Moore added: “Jordan is a blow, he’s gone really well pre-season and not really had a chance since I came in.

“We have found out what the problem is early and hopefully he won’t be out too long, as we first feared.

“It’s a big season for him.”
