Hartlepool United boss Colin Cooper resumes loan search

COLIN Cooper has today resumed his search for new players following the reopening of the loan window.

Pools chairman Ken Hodcroft used his matchday programme notes to reveal news of a deadline-day approach for a striker.

SportMail understands the player in question was Fulham’s Dino Islamovic, a 19-year-old Swede who scored twice for the Cottagers’ under-21 side at the weekend.

Hodcroft said the deal did not go ahead because of the player’s reluctance to move north.

However, his words will be of comfort to supporters who still hope to see attacking personnel brought in to help revive the club’s league campaign.

Pools are currently in 23rd position in the fourth tier with bottom club Accrington Stanley next up at Victoria Park on Saturday.

And Cooper says the quest for fresh blood continues.

“We’ll keep looking for personnel we believe will make us better,” he told SportMail.

“All we are trying to do is build something and get people who are athletic, with technical ability who will make Hartlepool better.

“The lads here, I have to say, have been smashing but as a manager and with Higgy (Craig Hignett) as assistant, it’s naïve if we don’t keep looking and watching matches to try and bring people in we feel will make us better.

“If we feel at some point – and we aren’t just bringing numbers in – we will be better for it and the chairman and chief executive are open to it then we will look at it.”

And, of the deadline-day pursuit of a frontman, Cooper went on: “We didn’t miss out on anyone, we had a couple to talk to.

“We made contact and tried to bring people in, but that was Monday, bear in mind what happened on Tuesday (5-0 win over Bradford City).”
