MICK Wadsworth blasted his side for their “incomprehensibly rubbish” display after they were dumped out of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy at Scunthorpe United.

But the Pools boss admits he would prefer they got that performance out of the system in the cup competition rather than crash to defeat in the league.

Wadsworth’s men are unbeaten in five in League One but last night’s second-half display, in which they conceded two sloppy goals, was a far cry from their impressive efforts of late.

Bobby Grant scored twice to seal victory for the hosts, the second coming courtesy of a gift of a headed back pass from Andy Monkhouse.

And a dismayed Wadsworth told SportMail today: “It was rubbish – the second half was absolutely, incomprehensibly rubbish.”
