MICK Wadsworth has welcomed the eventual return of Neil Austin and admits that last year’s Player of the Season has been a big miss.

The 27-year-old handed over his trophy to newly-crowned Antony Sweeney prior to Saturday’s final home game of the season against Bournemouth, joking with his team-mate that it was merely a loan arrangement.

Austin skippered the side in what was his first senior start in more than three months during the 2-2 draw against The Cherries, soldiering on for the full 90 minutes despite suffering an early head wound.

And Wadsworth has spoken of his delight at seeing one of his “blue chip” brigade back in action before the season’s end.

“Neil had been back in training for a little while now and was absolutely desperate to be involved before the end of the season,” the Pools chief told SportMail.
