HARTLEPOOL United boss Mick Wadsworth has revealed his new No.9 was always his No.1 transfer target.
Towering frontman Colin Nish will don the jersey previously worn with distinction by the likes of Pools legends Bob Newton and Joe Allon.
And Wadsworth told SportMail today that the former Hibernian ace was always at the top of his summer wish-list.
“He honestly was our number one target,” Wadsworth told us from the second day of Pools’ pre-season training camp in Holland.
“When I saw him on the list I thought ‘yeah, he’s the one I really like’.
“We were obviously thrilled to get Nobby Solano, but Colin was one I was determined to get done.
“It took a while and we had to do a lot of work on it.
“We had to try and keep it quiet and not let it go public and I have to say Colin and his representatives acted with real integrity.
“You know what they’re like – sometimes they can let it out of the bag just to get a little bit of competition from other clubs.
“But they acted with a good, professional spirit and I was delighted when we got him signed.”
