HARTLEPOOL United defender Jordan Richards has signed a new contract to commit his future to the club.

The 21-year-old right back was going in to an option year on his current deal but manager Colin Cooper has moved to tie down the full-back for a longer period.

Richards has been at the Sky Bet League Two club since the age of 10 and said he was “absolutely delighted” to put pen to paper on a new deal.

The popular defender turned professional in the summer of 2011 and has gone on to make 35 appearances for the first team, including 19 senior appearances for the club in the 2013-14 campaign, after returning from a hernia operation to enjoy a run in the side at right-back.

Richards said: “I am absolutely delighted with the new deal and to be here next season.

“I couldn’t wait to sign the contract and get it all sorted out so now I just want to work as hard as I can, keep enjoying it and play more games for the club,” he told the club website.
