HARTLEPOOL United fans have given their reaction to Jack Baldwin’s dramatic deadline day transfer to Peterborough United.
The 20-year-old defender signed a four-and-a-half year deal just before the 11pm deadline on Friday at the London Road club and fans at his former club have wished him well.
The transfer fee is quoted as £500,000 but it is understood it could be worth as much as £750,000 to the Sky Bet League Two club.
Pauline McSweenie, secretary of Hartlepool United Supporters’ Association, said: “I think we all expected him to go at some point, it was just disappointing we couldn’t keep hold of him until the end of the season.
“He has always shown his class and continued to get better so it was no surprise he moved to a higher level.
“No disrespect to Peterborough, but I think he would have been better at a more stable Championship club, rather than one that bounces between the divisions.
“But good luck to Jack, he has been a great servant for Pools and I’m sure he will go far.
“He has been nicknamed the new Alan Hansen and I’m sure he will rise to the challenge.”
Meanwhile, Pools fans also had a strong reaction on Twitter.
Mark Carroll tweeted: “When the loan window opens we MUST bring in another centre half, can’t go on for rest of season with two centre defenders.”
Vicki Thompson added: “Gutted but can’t stand in his way - career to think of. Good luck!!”
Liam Reid tweeted: “Gutted by it. Still, a reasonable price and he has been a great servant. Wish him all the best.”
Meanwhile, Michael Bell added: “Good move for the lad hope he does well, good money for Pools as well!”
