A HOSPICE is set for a funding boost when Hartlepool United legends reunite to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their League One play-off final.

Back in May 2005, Pools were within eight minutes of securing promotion to the Championship as they led Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium.

Sadly, the dream slipped away and Pools ended up losing 4-2 after extra time to break the hearts of thousands of supporters who had travelled down from the North-East.

Now, 10 years on and the squad is getting back together for a reunion bash which will help raise funds for patient care at the Hartlepool & District Hospice, in Wells Avenue.

Organisers say the event has been put together to raise funds for the hospice, and to allow the players and fans to reunite 10 years after that fantastic day out in Cardiff.

Most of the players in the squad that day have confirmed their attendance.

They include former captain Micky Barron, striker Adam Boyd, John Brackstone, Ben Clark, Darrell Clarke, Darren Craddock, Jon Daly - who scored one of the goals at Cardiff - Dimi Konstantopoulos, Micky Nelson, Matty Robson, Antony Sweeney, Mark Tinkler and Chris Westwood plus management staff Neale Cooper and Paul Stephenson.

Hospice events fundraiser, Greg Hildreth, said: “We are delighted that this event has been arranged and is helping to raise vital funds for the Hartlepool & District Hospice.

“It is sure to be a fabulous event and it is great to see the Hartlepool United squad from that season getting back together.

“We are all looking forward to it and we are very grateful for the support.”

Tickets are priced at £200 for a table of 10. There is also a small number of individual tickets also available at £20 each.

The event will be held at the town’s Borough Hall, on the Headland, on Saturday, May 16, and will include a pie and peas supper, top comedian, auction and raffle.

Organisers say that ticket sales have already meant the event has twice had to be moved to a larger venue. Only a limited number of tickets remain.
