ANTONY Sweeney and Nobby Solano will step up their comeback bids at Gateshead this evening.

The pair will turn out for Micky Barron’s second-string in the totesport.com League Cup first round under the watchful eye of first-team coach Mick Wadsworth at the International Stadium (kick off 7pm).

Sweeney made his first appearance in three weeks as a second-half substitute during last night’s 2-0 Johnstone’s Paint Trophy defeat at Scunthorpe.

The influential midfielder suffered a groin strain in the Carling Cup exit against Sheffield United on August 9 but, should tonight’s run out against The Tynesiders pass without problem, he’ll be in contention for a start when Exeter City visit Victoria Park on Saturday.
