ANTONY Sweeney admits he’s got a fight on his hands to win back a place in Mick Wadsworth’s starting XI.
The player-of-the-season played 65 minutes of last night’s 2-1 reserve-team defeat at Gateshead having made his comeback from a three-week groin layoff just 24 hours earlier at Scunthorpe.
Sweeney, nicknamed Lazarus for his rapid powers of recovery, first suffered the injury just minutes after scoring his first goal of the campaign in the Carling Cup defeat to Sheffield United on August 9.
He confirmed to SportMail today that the initial prognosis wasn’t good and that a return to action before the end of the month had seemed out of the question.
