TONY Sweeney has today apologised to the supporters who made the long trip to Wycombe to witness Hartlepool United’s 5-0 drubbing, writes CRAIG HOPE.

The 28-year-old – arguably the only player to emerge with any credit from a disastrous afternoon – was embarrassed by the team effort at Adams Park and didn’t hold back in his stinging assessment when he spoke to SportMail today.

“I can’t stand here and think of anything positive to come out of Saturday,” declared Sweeney.

“It came from nowhere because we have been on a decent run of form.”
